A three-day workshop on revision and material development for class first and third Environmental Studies (EVS) textbooks, jointly organized by Academy of Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers (APDUMT), JMI and Holistic Education Trust, Delhi, concluded yesterday at the university. The aim of the workshop which was inaugurated on 5th May, 2025 was to revise the EVS textbooks and rationalize their content in the context of NEP-2020 & National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE)-2023.
At the outset, the Academy expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor, JMI, and Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar JMI, for their approval and support to conduct such a workshop in collaboration with Holistic Education Trust, Delhi. Prof. Jasim Ahmad, Offg. Director, APDUMT, JMI, welcomed the Secretary of the HET, Mr. Syed Tanweer Ahmad, other functionaries of the trust, and the invited resource persons. He outlined the major aims of the workshop and discussed the principles and maxims of content organization, and curricular goals of the NCF-SE-2023. Prof. Ahmad also highlighted the need for textbook revision and urged the resource persons to make sure that the nation’s values, culture and the rich heritage are given due weightage when it comes to content revision and development of the textbooks. He also emphasized the need to develop 21st century skills among early learners.
Syed Tanweer Ahmad, Secretary of the Holistic Education Trust discussed the vision, mission and aims of the Trust. He also underscored the focal thrusts of the NEP-2020 and NCF-SE-2023 in the context of environmental concerns and value education. The workshop coordinator for class 3rd (EVS), Dr. A. Wahid Nazeer, conducted the inaugural session of the workshop while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Hina Afreen, coordinator for class-1st (EVS). After the inaugural session both the coordinators interacted with their resource persons and discussed strategies on how to go about the revision and development of the textbook in the light of NEP-2020 and NCF-SE-2023.
The workshops witnessed rich deliberations and in-depth discussions between the resource persons in both common groups as well as in class and subject-specific group situations. These discussions went a long way in helping all resource persons and subject experts in revising the text books, including the addition of some new chapters, and re-writing the existing ones, to make them more contextualized and relevant to the needs and challenges faced by the present generation.
The three-day workshop concluded with a preliminary draft of the chapters to be included in the book, and a rationalization of the content in the light of the requirements of the 21st century and NCF-SE-2023 guidelines.
The prepared chapters will be presented and discussed in the upcoming workshops so as to give a final shape to the EVS textbooks for class I and Class III.
