A three days International Conference on Recent Trends in Mathematics and Computing (ICRTMC-2026) is being organized by the Department of Mathematics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) from February 16-18, 2026. The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Mazhar Asif, Honorable Vice Chancellor, JMI who is also the Chief patron of the academic event. During his address, Prof. Mazhar Asif highlighted the important role of Mathematics in day to day life and math-phobia. He urged the mathematics teacher to make mathematics teaching friendly for the students. He suggested all to read the ancient manuscript like Lilavati written by Bhakaracharya and emphasized about the mathematical skills of Omar Khayyam. He talked about the learning of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) under the NEP 2020.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Arshad Khan, HoD, Department of Mathematics and Prof. Saifur Rahman, the convener of the conference reported that more than 280 participants from India and abroad registered for this event and about
220 delegates are expected to present their research work. In addition to the contributed talks, there are 47 invited talks to be delivered during the event. He also mentioned that four journals namely Acta Universitatis Sapientiae, Mathematica, JMI International Journal of Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Applications E-Notes (MSAEN) and Buletim da Sociedade Paranaense de Mathematica have agreed to publish a few selected research papers after peer review in Special Volumes.
Guests of Honour of the inaugural function Prof. M. M. Sufyan Beg, AMU, Aligarh and Prof. Ajay Kumar, Delhi University, Delhi delivered their thoughts about the conference and the role of pure and Applied Mathematics in Science and Engineering. They explained the importance and the need of learning of Artificial Intelligence.
The Chief Guest of the function Prof. Tarini Kumar Dutta spoke that 360 degrees learning is the need of era. He said that no science can be done without mathematics.
Prof. Saeed Uddin, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, JMI highlighted the role of Mathematics in a day to day life.
Vote of thanks was rendered by Dr. Ahmad Kamal, the Co-Convener of the conference. He acknowledged the generous financial support received from ANRF, Bank of India, Jamia Co. Bank and JMI for this event. A short documentary on JMI was also screened during the inaugural function. The National Anthem was sung at the end of the program.
