Hon’ble Vice Chancellor JMI along with the Registrar visited Centre for Distance and Online Education, Jamia Millia Islamia on 15th May 2024 in the afternoon. An interactive meet was held with all teaching staffs in the conference room of CDOE. He also observed the different parts of the CDOE Building and suggested many things to bring further improvements. Meeting was also graced by the Dean, Faculty of Education.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor was welcomed by Prof. Jasim Ahmad, Honorary Director CDOE and all the staff of the center with high enthusiasm. The meeting began with the recitation from the holy Quran. After it, Prof. Jasim Ahmad presented the overview of the center since its inception in 2002 to the entire journey till date. He elaborated on the programs offered by CDOE along with other details relating to induction meeting, curriculum transaction, counselling sessions, students’ grievances, workshops, examination etc. He further highlighted the challenges and coping mechanisms. The presentation included the information regarding the present enrolment at the center, which is 17157 taking together all PG, UG, Diploma, and Certificate programmes. He also pointed out about purchasing more Google space to ensure quality online sessions. He focused on enhancing skills of students which can help them to make employable and informed about the newly constituted various committees of the centre to smoothen the work and ensure quality. He also pointed out about launching of CDOE JAMIA Official YouTube Channel to upload video lectures and content created by CDOE faculty.
During his address, the hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eqbal Hussain, highlighted the significance of distance learning and online education in the light of New Education Policy 2020. He pointed out primarily two major highlights of NEP-2020; the University-Industry collaboration to enhance the skills of students. Secondly, he highlighted the access of education and said “Education must be accessible to All.” It is in this regard the significance of distance and online mode education, which is unparalleled to any other mode, as it tries to reach the unreached with the help of technology. He also highlighted with reference to NEP-2020 that 40% courses need to be provided in online mode. Under the above context Hon’ble Vice Chancellor underlined the significance of CDOE, JMI. The meeting ended with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Dayal Sandhu of CDOE.
