The vigilance team arrested Inspector Mahendra Singh, posted with the Hapur Crime Branch, after catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹4 lakh in Meerut. The arrest was made from Rohta Road, where the accused inspector allegedly came to collect the money.
According to officials, the bribe was demanded in connection with the Baghpat Ruchhpal murder case, in which Inspector Mahendra Singh was the investigating officer. He allegedly sought the amount in exchange for removing the names of two accused persons from the murder case.
Demand Linked to Baghpat Murder Probe
The complainant, Lokesh Baisla, a resident of Gotkha village in Khekra police station area, Baghpat, stated that he had purchased around two bighas of land from Ruchhpal in 2021. A few days later, Ruchhpal was found dead, hanging from a tree in the village. His family subsequently lodged a murder complaint against Dhara Singh, Manoj, and Ajay Pal.
About ten days after the incident, the case was transferred to Hapur. The investigation is currently being handled by the Hapur Crime Branch, with Inspector Mahendra Singh as the IO.
Lokesh alleged that the inspector demanded ₹4 lakh to remove the names of Ajay Pal and Manoj from the case. He then approached the vigilance department and filed a formal complaint.
Trap Laid, Arrest Made
Following verification of the complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap and arrested Inspector Mahendra Singh while he was accepting the bribe amount on Rohta Road, where his house is also located.
SP City Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed the arrest and said that a case is being registered against the inspector. Further investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken based on the findings.
