Jamia Millia Islamia has achieved a significant milestone in global sustainability rankings by securing 334th position worldwide in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026, improving substantially from 376th position in 2025. The University has thus recorded an impressive 42-place improvement in the global ranking.
JMI has also secured 13th position in India and 192nd position in Asia, reaffirming its continued commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility and sustainable campus development. According to the official UI GreenMetric 2026 ranking, JMI is placed at 334th globally, 13th nationally and 192nd in Asia.
The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, an international sustainability ranking initiative associated with Universitas Indonesia, evaluates universities on various dimensions of sustainable development and campus sustainability. The 2026 edition includes universities from around the world and assesses their performance across key sustainability-related indicators.
Expressing his delight over this remarkable accomplishment, Prof. Mazhar Asif, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia, congratulated the entire Jamia fraternity, including faculty members, students, researchers, alumni and staff, for their collective contribution towards this achievement.
Prof. Mazhar Asif stated that this recognition is a testament to the University's sustained efforts towards academic excellence, environmental responsibility, sustainable development and quality in higher education. He further expressed confidence that JMI would continue to strengthen its sustainability initiatives and achieve greater milestones in the years ahead.
Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Hon'ble Registrar, Jamia Millia Islamia, described the achievement as a matter of immense pride for the University and appreciated the collective efforts of all stakeholders in strengthening JMI's academic and institutional standing at the national and international levels.
The University also acknowledged the significant contribution of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) under the leadership of Prof. Rafat Parveen, Director, IQAC, and her dedicated team. Through its continuous focus on quality assurance, institutional data management, ranking and accreditation processes, sustainability-related data compilation and evidence-based governance, IQAC has played a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing the University's performance across various national and international ranking frameworks.
The achievement reflects the coordinated efforts of various Faculties, Departments, Centres, administrative units, faculty members, students, researchers and staff of Jamia Millia Islamia. Their collective contribution towards sustainable campus practices, environmental management, resource conservation, green infrastructure and responsible institutional development has strengthened JMI's position in the global sustainability landscape.
The University's continued progress in the UI GreenMetric rankings reflects its commitment to integrating sustainability, environmental consciousness and responsible resource management into its academic, research and administrative ecosystem.
