Mahindra Logistics Strengthens Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
Mahindra Logistics Ltd. (MLL), one of India’s largest third-party logistics (3PL) solution providers, is reinforcing its commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the workplace. Through its five-year roadmap, MLL aims to leverage untapped talent pools, foster meaningful employee engagement, and embrace a culture of oneness that celebrates India’s demographic diversity.
As part of this initiative, MLL is actively hiring differently-abled individuals, ex-servicemen from the armed forces, and increasing gender diversity by recruiting more women from varied backgrounds and experience levels.
Pride Month and LGBTQIA+ Inclusion
Marking the beginning of Pride Month, MLL unveiled its LGBTQIA+ policy and outlined a comprehensive plan to employ individuals from the community. This initiative reflects MLL's belief in creating an inclusive environment that values diverse identities and perspectives.
Empowering Persons with Disabilities
MLL has commenced the hiring of persons with disabilities (PwDs) across its warehouse operations. In FY2021, the company aims to recruit 500 employees—including both on-roll staff and through business partners. In addition to recruitment, MLL conducts sensitization sessions and has completed infrastructure audits to ensure its facilities are accessible and inclusive.
Supporting Armed Forces Veterans
To integrate veterans into the workforce, MLL is onboarding ex-servicemen—particularly JCOs and NCOs from the Army, Navy, and Air Force—for large operations at customer sites. The goal is to onboard 10 ex-servicemen in the first phase and expand this number to 50 over the next three years.
Advancing Gender Diversity
Gender diversity continues to be a challenge in the logistics sector. To address this, MLL has launched ‘Udaan’—a second careers initiative and internship program designed for women across levels, functions, and divisions. Additionally, the ‘Birth & Beyond’ policy supports women employees through all stages of the maternity journey, fostering a conducive work environment. The company has already begun hiring under the Udaan program and plans to reach 50 hires by the end of 2021.
Leadership Perspective
Mr. Rampraveen Swaminathan, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Logistics Ltd., stated:
“We encourage and value diversity among our employees, associates, business partners, customers, and communities. It is imperative to make MLL attractive for millennials, provide equal opportunity to women and persons with disabilities, and recruit talent from diverse backgrounds, including the armed forces. We are also committed to breaking stereotypes around the LGBTQIA+ workforce. These efforts enable us to gain fresh perspectives and broaden our outlook, ultimately strengthening our business.”
