Jamia Middle School of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) celebrated the maiden National Space Day on 19th August, 2024 with an Exhibition on India's achievements in space missions. To commemorate the first anniversary of the successful lunar landing of Chandrayaan-3 on August 23, 2023, the inaugural National Space Day on 23rd August, 2024 is being celebrated across the country as declared by the Government of India. This program aims to engage and inspire young minds towards space technology. Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Officiating Vice Chancellor, JMI was the chief guest of the event. He was welcomed by the school Headmistress Ms Nusrat Jahan. As a part of the campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” the Vice Chancellor began the Plantation Drive by planting a sapling in school premises.
The theme of the day-long Exhibition was “Touching Lives While Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga” . Models prepared by students on Satellite Communication, Space Debris, Chandrayaan-3, the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, the Space Station, Solar and Lunar Eclipses and many more such topics were on display in the exhibition.
Speaking on the occasion the Vice Chancellor appreciated the models and greatly admired the exhibition. He said “I am pleasantly surprised to see the handiwork of the children. It reflects the curiosity and enthusiasm of students. These events inspire the students to take interest and get into the exciting field of Space Science and Technology and harvest the rich benefits. This also enables young minds to inculcate the spirit of scientific temperament and also choose the field of Space science and Technology as a career”. Ms Naaz Parveen TGT-science and other Science teachers under the supervision of Headmistress worked diligently for this exhibition, and the Vice chancellor praised them for their dedication.
The students described their working models to guests, teachers and other students. This was a competitive exhibition and the judges were Science teachers from other Jamia schools who declared the winners. In addition to this, a quiz on the same theme was also organized in the school in the previous week. Class VIII students participated in the quiz completion. There were four teams of three students each, namely Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, and Earth teams. The Vice Chancellor gave prizes to the winners of the space science Quiz and Exhibition. Many students have reached the second level in science Olympiad exams and received their merit certificates from the Vice Chancellor.
The Headmistress, Ms Nusrat Jahan was recently awarded “Best District Principal Award” for the year 2023-24 by the Academic Council of Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). This award is given in the field of education for leadership qualities and visionary initiatives for the cause of education. The Vice Chancellor congratulated and appreciated the Headmistress for her magnificent work in the school.
Ms Nida Husain, TGT-Maths the coordinator of Olympiad exams was also awarded by SOF with a Certificate of Appreciation for all her hard work.
The Headmistress extended her appreciation to all the teaching and non teaching staff of the school involved and worked hard for successfully conducting these events. The program was concluded with the formal vote of thanks by the Headmistress. The event was very well attended by the Principal of Jamia Senior Secondary School Dr Mohd Arshad Khan, Incharge of SAH Senior Secondary School Ms Shagufta Shandar Khan and Headmistress of MF Nursery School Ms Rukhsana Parveen.
