New Delhi, February 15: The Department of Teacher Training and Non-formal Education (IASE), Jamia Millia Islamia( JMI) organized a two-day Jamia International Conference on Education (JICE-2024) on 14th & 15th February, 2024. The theme of the conference was ‘Transforming Indian Education Post-NEP- 2020: Connecting to the Past - Targeting at the Future’.
Offg. Vice Chancellor of JMI Prof. Eqbal Hussain presided over the inaugural function of the conference held on 14th February 2024 in the auditorium of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, JMI. Prof. H.C.S Rathore, the Chairperson of NRC, NCTE and former Vice Chancellor, Central University of South Bihar, Gaya very kindly graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the Inaugural Function.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Jyotsna Pattnaik, California State University, Long Beach, USA and Prof. Mohammad Akhtr Siddiqui, former Chairman, NCTE. The other dignitaries on the dias were Dean, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, Head, IASE, Prof. Jessy Abraham and the Conference Convener Prof. Jasim Ahmad. Prof. Naheed Zahor, the Co- Chair of the conference and Organizing Secretaries Prof. Roohi Fatima, Dr. Aerum Khan and Dr. Ansar Ahmad graced the occasion.
The programme began with the Qirat from the Holy Quran by Mr. Ibraheem Khan, a B.Ed. Student of the IASE, followed by Jamia Tarana by the team of Mr. Zeesham Zameer.
The compendium of the abstracts of JICE-2024 was released followed by the release of three edited books as the outcome of JICE-2022. One on ICT in Education, the second on Outcome Based Learning and the third on Inclusive Education.
The programme was attended by many distinguished personalities like Prof. Mohd Miyan, Prof. Ilyas Hussain, Prof. Talat Aziz, Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Prof. Joey Martinez Dela Cruz of University of Alba, Philippines and many other Deans of the faculties and Heads of the Departments of JMI. The programme was attended by around 400 participants in offline mode and around 200 in online mode. Among the offline participants, around 150 were paper presenters and around 250 were the faculty members, students of Ph.D. PG and UG Programmes in the field of Education. Most of the faculty members of IASE and DES participated in the function.
Prof. Equbal Hussain, in his address focused on the need of ICT skills to adapt ourselves in the present age of digitization. Prof. H.C.S. Rathore spoke in-depth on various pressing areas in the field of education in general and teacher education in particular. He also touched upon the concept and meaning of Sanatan, Dharm and Value education.
Prof. Jasim Ahmda, in his address on background of the conference touched upon the various of areas of NEP-2020 with special focus on the initiatives taken by UGC in Higher Education like MEES, HEFA, ABC etc and stressed upon the need of concerted efforts to achieves the goals of NEP-2020 through collaborative efforts of all the stakeholders.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Aerum Khan, Associate Professor, IASE and also the Organising Secretary of the JICE-2024. The inaugural function ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. Naheed Zahoor and national anthem by the team of Mr. Zeeshan Zameer and Dr. Pettala Ramakrishna (Sign Language Team).
