The School of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) organised a one-day National Consultative Meeting-cum-Webinar on the theme “Future of Higher Learning & the New Learners: Looking beyond 2030” in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities(AIU). The inaugural session was chaired by Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI while Prof. Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, AIU graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The purpose of this National Meeting-cum-Webinar was to deliberate upon the futuristic developmental agenda of higher education in India. The panelist and the participants also deliberated upon the appropriate competencies and abilities as well as specialized learning required for the students and teachers of higher education in India. The appropriate curricular and pedagogical change required in this context was also discussed in the meet.
Welcoming the experts and academicians Prof. Aejaz Maseeh, Dean Faculty of Education and Nodal Officer School of Education, JMI discussed the purpose of organizing the webinar.Prof. Pankaj Mittal in her address highlighted the changing role of education in the rapidly changing world and the nature of higher education is going to be changed in the years to come.Prof. Najma Akhtar, in her presidential remarks, discussed salient features of Indian higher education and how it is moving towards rapid change in multifaceted manner in the years to come and how the universities need to be equipped to face the changing world.
Eminent educationists and experts who deliberated on the theme include Prof. G.D Sharma, President Society for Education & Economic Development, Prof. Mohd. Muzammil, former Vice Chancellor, BR Ambedkar University, Agra, Prof. Harshad P. Shah, Vice Chancellor, Children’s University, Prof. S. R Bhatt, former Chairperson of Indian Council for Philosophical Research, Dr. Amarendra Pani etc. Heads and the faculty members of the Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE) and Department of Educational Studies and research scholars were also present in the event.
