The Department of Computer Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised it’s 4th Alumni Meet “Milestone 2021” (Online) on August 29, 2021, which was attended by more than 80 participants that included alumni from different courses (Ph.D., MCA, PGDCA, M.Sc.) and current batch students of the department. The theme of the event was “Emerging Technical Skills”. The invited keynote speakers were Mr. Anil Kumar Kushwaha, Principal Software Engineer-Unicommerce (MCA Alumnus-2010), Mr. Sajid Aziz, JAVA Developer-Wipro, (MCA Alumnus-2010), Ms. Sidrah, Data Analyst – United Health (MCA Alumna-2015), Ms. Shivani Saha, Software EngineerMicrosoft (MCA Alumna-2017) and Mr. Salman Khan, IT Analyst, TCS (MCA Alumnus-2016), Mr. Chandan Makhija-Staff Engineer-Nagarro (MCA Alumnus-2017), Mr. Basarat Ali, Java Analyst-Deloitte (MCA Alumnus-2019) were the invited panellists.
Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, JMI in her inaugural address acknowledged that an institutions’ alumni are key to its growth. She said we must focus on ways to reconnect with them, by regularly organizing Alumni meet events, which computer science department is doing. She also briefed about “Alma Connect” initiative being introduced by the university. Dean, Prof. Seemi Farhat Basir emphasized that alumni are the Brand Ambassadors of the university and their role cannot be ignored. She took pride in informing audience that Prof. Zahid Ashraf (HoD, Biotechnology) who happens to be an alumnus of university is being awarded prestigious Visitors Award 2020 by the Hon’ble President. Prof. S.M.K. Quadri, HoD highlighted achievements of the department.
Prof. Zainul Abdin Jaffery, Director, University Placement Cell highlighted wonderful placement opportunities coming to different courses of university. Mr. Anil Kumar Kushwaha expressed his gratitude for university and mentioned about various certifications which can help students to grab good IT roles. Mr. Sajid Aziz emphasized accountability is the key point for successful career along with various job roles for coding and non-coding backgrounds. He announced his initiative of e-Learning platform “LEARNMYCOURSE” to provide IT trainings and other placement related services.Ms. Sidrah emphasized about Data Analytics & Data Science, and its role in business. She also expressed her interest to deliver a special session on it.
Ms. Shivani Saha expressed not to worry about failures and be always ready to upskill, and work on a completely new technology.The four panellists discussed all kinds of career options from different roles in Industry including Cyber security expert to Data scientist. Participants interacted with the faculty members Prof. M. Abulaish, Prof. S.A.M. Rizvi, Prof. Monica Mehrotra, Dr. Mansaf Alam, Dr. Rafat Parveen, Dr. Syed Zeeshan Husain, Dr. Khalid Raza, Dr. Taran Singh Bharti, and Prof. S. K. Naqvi present in the event.For the outgoing MCA batch 2021, 38 out of 50 students are placed with package ranging between 3.5 Lakhs to 7.2 Lakhs in different IT companies such as EXL, TCS, JKT, Mindfire Solutions, PokerStars, TTN, VectoScalar, HexaView, Bravura, Craterzone, Impetus, Cognizant, Knoldus, Cloud Analogy, and Accenture.
