The Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion (CSSI), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) successfully organized an outreach activity on Indian Knowledge System under the aegis of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 initiative, focusing on the theme of Financial Inclusion. The event conducted on 30th January, 2025, aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to cooperative financial institutions and their role in promoting social and economic inclusion.
The activity commenced with a rally from the CSSI campus to the office of Al-Khair Co- operative Credit Society Ltd in Zakir Nagar. Enthusiastic students carried posters and banners advocating financial inclusion, raising awareness about the significance of cooperative banking in empowering marginalized communities.
Upon arrival at the Al-Khair office, Mr. Reyaz, a senior representative of the organization, briefed the students about the structure, functioning, and impact of the co-operative credit society. His presentation highlighted the pivotal role of such institutions in providing accessible financial services to underprivileged sections of society.
Dr. Arvind Kumar at CSSI delivered an insightful address emphasizing the importance of financial cooperatives in fostering economic self-reliance. He underscored how such initiatives align with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, wherein financial inclusion plays a key role in nation-building.
A dynamic Q&A session ensued, allowing students to engage with experts, clarify doubts, and deepen their understanding of cooperative financial models. This interactive segment provided valuable learning opportunities, equipping students with knowledge about alternative banking systems that promote inclusion and equity.
To further enrich the outreach experience, faculty members and students conducted interviews with beneficiaries of Al-Khair Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. These interactions shed light on the tangible impact of cooperative finance in transforming lives, fostering entrepreneurship, and enabling financial independence among marginalized groups.
The event ended with a vote of thanks and a renewed commitment on both sides to continue with future engagements. CSSI reaffirmed its dedication to foster academic and practical engagements that contribute to an inclusive and progressive India. Students also expressed a renewed understanding of financial inclusion as a crucial pillar of social justice.
