Patna: A police sub-inspector (SI) in Bihar was caught accepting a ₹25,000 bribe in a sting operation, marking the first trap case of 2026, according to the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB).
Pramod Kumar Patel, posted at Akbarpur police station, allegedly demanded the bribe to delay arrests and manipulate case records in an ongoing criminal investigation. The complaint was filed by Vikas Kumar of Nawada, whose brother-in-law was involved in the case.
After verifying the complaint, a special VIB team, led by Superintendent of Police Gautam Krishna, conducted a sting at the station gate on January 2, 2026. Patel was arrested immediately as he accepted the bribe, and the cash was recovered.
Patel, who has served at Akbarpur station for six months, is now under questioning and will be presented before the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. The arrest has caused a stir in the police department, while the public has welcomed the bureau’s strict action against corruption.
