The 25th Senior Women’s National Football Championship kicked off today at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
State’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister of State for Sports and Youths Affairs Kiren Rijiju attended the inaugural match between Railways and Mizoram.
Railways started their campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Mizoram.
Three other matches were also held at other venues. In a Group-A match, Assam thrashed Andhra Pradesh 9-0. Bihar opened their campaign by beating Karnataka 3-0. In a close contest, Madhya Pradesh registered their victory by 2-1 goals against Haryana.
30 teams are participating in the 15-day event. Teams have been divided into eight groups. The eight group toppers will advance to the quarterfinals which will be followed by semifinals and final on 24th of this month.
