A woman sub-inspector posted at the Women’s Police Station in Kurukshetra was arrested on Friday after being caught red-handed while accepting a ₹85,000 bribe, officials from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said.
A joint ACB team from Ambala and Kurukshetra executed the arrest.
According to ACB Inspector Nanhi Devi, the SI — identified as Satyawanti — had allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from a local resident in exchange for removing his name from a rape complaint filed against him.
The complainant approached the ACB in Ambala and lodged a formal complaint against both the SI and the woman who had accused him in the rape case.
Following this, the ACB formed a special trap team led by Inspector Nanhi Devi. The SI was caught red-handed, and the marked currency used in the trap was recovered from her possession.
The underlying case involves a complaint by a woman from a nearby village who alleged that the man had taken her to a hotel over the past five years and maintained physical relations with her. SI Satyawanti was the investigating officer in the matter.
The ACB has registered a case against the arrested SI. She will be produced in court on Saturday, officials confirmed.
