In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) inspector posted in Hapur while he was accepting a bribe of ₹4 lakh. The accused officer, Inspector Mahendra Singh, was caught red-handed at his residence in Kankerkhera, Meerut.
According to officials, Inspector Mahendra Singh is posted at the DCRB office located within the Hapur SP office परिसर and has been living with his family in Meerut for a considerable period. He was investigating a murder case and allegedly demanded ₹4 lakh in exchange for removing a person’s name from the case or granting a clean chit.
Sources said that a resident of Gothra village in the Loni area of Ghaziabad was implicated in the murder case. Troubled by the bribe demand, the victim approached the Meerut Anti-Corruption Bureau and lodged a complaint. After verification, the ACB laid a trap.
On Wednesday, Inspector Mahendra Singh took official leave and called the complainant to his Meerut home to collect the bribe. As soon as the money was handed over, the ACB team intervened and arrested him on the spot.
The accused was taken to Kankerkhera police station, where a case is being registered against him under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Hapur SP Gyananjay Singh confirmed the arrest, stating that corruption within the police department will not be tolerated. The inspector has been suspended with immediate effect, and a departmental inquiry has also been initiated.
