In a striking case of cross-state corruption, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Haryana Police officer after catching him red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹3 lakh in Jodhpur. The arrest took place outside Kaparda police station on the Jaipur highway.
Haryana Crime Branch ASI Arrested
The accused has been identified as ASI Praveen, posted with the Crime Branch of Gurugram Police. According to ACB officials, the bribe was demanded in exchange for not assaulting or harassing an accused arrested in a vehicle theft case during police remand.
Of the total amount, ₹1.50 lakh was in genuine currency, while the remaining ₹1.50 lakh consisted of dummy notes used during the trap operation.
Bribe Linked to Theft Case Remand
ACB officials said the theft case was registered at Sadar police station in Gurugram district. The accused in the case was on police remand, and ASI Praveen was handling the investigation. For verification and related inquiry, the officer brought the accused to Jodhpur on Friday.
During this period, ASI Praveen allegedly contacted the accused’s family and demanded money, assuring them that the accused would not be beaten or troubled during remand and that “help” would be provided in the case.
Complaint Led to ACB Trap
Distressed by the demand, the family approached the Rajasthan ACB’s rural unit and submitted a written complaint. After verification confirmed the demand for illegal gratification, a trap was planned. The officer was caught while receiving the bribe late Saturday night.
Role of Other Officers Under Watch
Deputy Inspector General Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav stated that while ASI Praveen has been arrested, the role of other Haryana Police personnel accompanying him has not yet surfaced. Further investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved.
Legal Action Initiated
The accused officer has been taken into custody, and proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act are being initiated. He is expected to be produced before the court as per legal procedure.
