The students of M.A. Development Communication, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre (AJK MCRC), Jamia Millia Islamia, staged a Nukkad Natak titled “Sone Pe Suhaaga” on 4th December 2025 at 9:00 AM at Jamia Middle School. The performance was presented by a group of twenty students of Semester I under the guidance of faculty members Dr. Pragati Paul and Ms. Kashish Singh.
The street play aimed to raise awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through an engaging and participatory street-theatre format. The narrative revolved around the lived realities of individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and the role of society in fostering understanding and acceptance. Through compelling performances, the students effectively highlighted challenges related to communication, social interaction, and behavior while advocating empathy and inclusion.
The audience, comprising the Headmistress of Jamia Middle School Ms. Nusrat Jahan, teachers, and students of Jamia Middle School, responded enthusiastically. The Headmistress appreciated the students for their confident performance, teamwork, and meaningful message. The school community acknowledged the play as both informative and impactful, especially for young learners who gained valuable knowledge about autism.
The event also reinforced the collaborative relationship between AJK MCRC and Jamia Middle School. Coordination support from Ms. Andleeb Fatima, Ms. Sadaf Khan of Jamia Middle School and students of M.A. Development Communication contributed to the smooth conduct of the program.
“Sone Pe Suhaaga” strongly demonstrates the critical role of street theatre in Development Communication, using performance as a tool to spread awareness, foster dialogue, and advocate for a more inclusive society.
