Two octogenarian sisters from Ahmedabad have become an Internet sensation after videos of them confidently riding a scooter through busy city roads went viral, earning them the affectionate title of ‘Biker Dadis.’
Mandakini Shah, 87, popularly known as Mandaben, is seen steering her two-wheeler with ease, while her 84-year-old sister Ushaben accompanies her in the sidecar. The duo has captured widespread admiration for their fearlessness, independence, and joyful spirit.
Dressed in simple cotton sarees, the sisters have become a symbol of empowerment for women across age groups. Social media users are comparing them to the iconic “Jai-Veeru” duo from the Bollywood classic Sholay, applauding their bond and confidence.
Mandaben, daughter of a freedom fighter and the eldest among six siblings, revealed that she learned to ride a scooter at 62. A former teacher who never married, she now enjoys offering lifts to children and even strangers during her daily trips.
“I still ride without any trouble. My willpower keeps me going even in city traffic,” she said. “People I’ve never met praise me. Doctors even took pictures with me and didn’t charge anything after seeing me online.”
Despite walking with a stick, Mandaben also knows how to drive a jeep and often travels to her village on her own when a driver is unavailable.
The sisters say their growing popularity has encouraged many women to consider learning to ride. “Some men tell their wives to start riding fearlessly after seeing us,” Mandaben added.
Ushaben, who enjoys every ride in the sidecar, said, “People call us ‘Jai-Veeru’ when they see us. Age is not a barrier. We want women to feel inspired by us.”
