The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) , Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) conducted a six- days Residential Short Term Course on Specific Learning Disabilities from December 03 to 09, 2024. The program aimed to enhance awareness and equip faculty members of higher education institutions with theoretical and practical knowledge education of persons with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD).
The course commenced with an inaugural session which was graced by JMI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif and Prof. Veera Gupta, Director, MMTTC, JMI. Prof. Bharti Sharma course coordinator conceptualized the course outline. Mr. Devendra K. Sharma, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, delivered the opening lecture.
In his lecture Mr. Sharma emphasized upon national schemes for addressing SLD. A general orientation session was organized by featuring the highly successful and critically acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par. The film helped in raising awareness about SLD. A special message and best wishes were received by the film creative writer and director Mr. Amol Gupte.
The week concluded with a valedictory session addressed by Dr. Vikas Trivedi from the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD), Government of India.
This comprehensive initiative underlined the importance of addressing SLD holistically, bridging gaps in education and awareness, and promoting inclusive practices.
The event was widely appreciated by 35 participants (Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors) from different states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana, U.P., Delhi, etc. for its practical insights and enriching discussions.
