Madhya Pradesh has entered a new phase of higher education reform with the establishment of 55 Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence—one in each district—aimed at improving academic quality and employability.
Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said more than ₹336 crore has been approved for infrastructure upgrades, along with the creation of 1,845 new posts. The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on multidisciplinary, skill-based, and inclusive education.
The state has also implemented four-year undergraduate programmes, introduced one-year postgraduate courses, and launched interdisciplinary options. Three new universities have been established in Guna, Khargone, and Sagar.
Officials said the reforms aim to raise the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) from 28.9% to 35% in the coming years.
