Government e Marketplace and Steel Authority of India Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a GeM Organizational Transformation Team (GOTT) Project Management Unit (PMU) in New Delhi.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Binoy Kumar, Anup Wadhawan and Anil Chaudhary. The agreement was signed by S. Suresh Kumar and Harinand Rai.
Launched in August 2016, GeM serves as the national public procurement platform aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and competitiveness in government procurement. The platform was introduced to address challenges such as delays in procurement, limited competition, high costs and allegations of corruption.
The newly established GOTT PMU will help public sector organisations transform their procurement systems by adopting market-based procurement practices and leveraging digital platforms more effectively.
With this agreement, Steel Authority of India Limited has become the first public sector undertaking (PSU) to establish a GOTT PMU for transforming its procurement operations and expanding its presence on the GeM platform.
The initiative is expected to help SAIL achieve annual transactions worth approximately ₹1,700 crore on the GeM platform in the first year, with the potential to scale up to ₹9,000 crore over time through improved procurement efficiency and monetisation.
