New Delhi: Then President Ram Nath Kovind gave assent to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, following its passage by Parliament. A Gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
The Act reorganized the former state into two Union Territories — Jammu and Kashmir with a legislature and Ladakh without a legislature. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the new Union Territories came into existence on October 31, 2019.
