Aaj Tak reported, A Delhi court has rejected the bail application of Army officer Lieutenant Colonel Deepak Kumar Sharma, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a corruption case.
Special Judge Gagandeep Singh, in an order dated January 23, agreed with the submissions made by the prosecution and held that prima facie grounds exist to deny bail at this stage. The court observed that the allegations against Lt Col Sharma are serious in nature and require further investigation.
According to the prosecution, Lt Col Deepak Kumar Sharma was posted with the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence at the time of the alleged offence. The CBI has accused him of abusing his official position in a corruption-related matter.
The court noted that granting bail at this juncture could hamper the ongoing investigation and influence the collection of evidence. Taking these factors into consideration, the judge dismissed the bail plea.
The matter remains under investigation, and the accused will continue to remain in judicial custody.
