In Madhya Pradesh, eleven people drowned today when boat carrying them capsized during Ganesh idol immersion in Lower Lake of Bhopal, while six was rescued. Two boat handlers are still missing. Search operation still continues.
Two people have been arrested in this case so far. A magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident. As per the National Disaster Response Force-NDRF release, a total of 19 people were going on boat for the immersion of the Ganesh idol at Khatlapura ghat when the incident took place.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), NDRF, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, local police and the citizens swung into action and rescued six persons.
An ex-gratia of Rs 11 lakh was announced by the state government for the kin of the deceased. Most of the dead are young and their age is between 15 and 30 years. All of them were residents of Piplani area of Bhopal.
