The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nuh, on Friday arrested Saurabh Upadhyay, Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) of the Rewari Block Committee, while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹35,000. The officer is accused of demanding illegal gratification in exchange for clearing pending bills related to development works.
According to information received, Ravindra Khola, husband of Rewari Block Committee Chairperson Mamta Yadav, had lodged a complaint with ACB Nuh. The complaint stated that several contractors had already completed development works in the block area, but their bills had been pending for a long time. It was alleged that BDPO Saurabh Upadhyay demanded a bribe of ₹35,000 to clear these bills.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB Nuh team laid a trap as per a pre-planned strategy. On Friday, Ravindra Khola was called to the BDPO office located on Garhi Bolni Road. As soon as the complainant handed over the bribe amount of ₹35,000 to the accused officer and gave the predetermined signal, the ACB team immediately intervened and caught the BDPO red-handed along with the bribe money.
Block Committee Chairperson Mamta Yadav alleged that the BDPO was demanding around 10 percent commission on development works and that bills amounting to nearly ₹50 lakh were pending.
