Teachers’ body of Jamia Millia Islamia condemns a coordinated targeting of first lady Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia. It has been observed that Prof. Najma Akhtar is at the target of some people with vested interests who use to milk the system through misdeeds and nepotism.
Last year, the decision of the search committee for Jamia VC, university Visitor and Hon’ble President of India was hailed at every corner of the nation for selecting first lady Vice Chancellor in the hundred-year history of Jamia. Soon after joining the post, she is at the prime target of a handful people for primarily two reasons. First, Prof. Akhtar has tightened regulation of admission and recruitment process which received a huge appreciation due to transparency of mechanism. Second, some selective people who use to adhere at VC office and get undue benefits have been totally ignored for their ill wills.
Also, we believe, she is at the frequent target being a female which is not digesting well to gender-biased people. They are continuously fueling the unrest through a specific section of students in the University even if she has openly interacting, addressing, listening to and resolving issues of the students. Such people, amid trying to remain veiled, are continuously approaching their close links including that appeared in the recent news. The university as a whole has become their soft-target due to rapidly changing socio-political circumstances in India and abroad. Such opportunists are leaving no chance to attack the Jamia with intent to derail the rapidly progressing University.
Prof. Najma Akhtar has always supported students for their genuine issues, be it academic or national. Also, she has expedited the promotion related and other long pending issues. Despite popping up of issues demanding urgent action of national and International concerns, Prof. Akhtar was successful in retaining academic environment in the campus. It looks unbelievable, however, true that academic sessions and progress of Jamia is running as per the calendar. She has given opportunities to number of deserving teachers to serve the institute at various positions with enormous number of female colleagues.
Jamia Teachers’ Association declares that it extends full support to the Vice Chancellor for her actions and decisions so far and would continue to do so till she works as per University ordinances, with transparency, just approach and in favor of students and staff including teachers. JTA is hopeful that she will bring funds for more staff-student accommodation, research facilities and overall welfare of University. Jamia teachers will fight every odd to keep the university on track and contributing in the progress of the nation for which it was founded one hundred years ago.
JTA acknowledges and appreciate the role of news agencies and media who helped Jamia in hard times through fair and actual reporting. However, a few news agencies were much different reporting with prejudice amid carrying unjustified and malignant attitude against stakeholders of Jamia be it Vice Chancellor, teachers or students. Media should stint their adventurous reporting with the name of Jamia. JTA urges media to anticipate the fragile state of reader’s mind, and of all stakeholders, when one of the top ranked Indian university has returned back to normalcy and is high on academic and educational activities and use their enthusiasm toward responsible reporting.
Jamia is united to keep itself one and ever-progressive.
