In a significant step towards achieving a Naxal-free India, security forces have killed six Naxalites, including Central Committee member Ganesh Uike, in a major operation in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on Wednesday.
The operation is being described as a major breakthrough in the fight against Left Wing Extremism in the state. With this success, Odisha is now on the verge of becoming completely free of Naxal activity, officials said.
In a post on social media platform X, the Home Minister’s Office said the operation marks an important milestone towards the goal of a Naxal-free India. The post stated that the elimination of senior Naxal leader Ganesh Uike and five other cadres has significantly weakened the extremist network in the region.
“The success of this operation has brought Odisha to the brink of becoming fully Naxal-free. We are committed to eliminating Naxalism before March 31, 2026,” the post said.
The government has reiterated its resolve to intensify operations against Left Wing Extremism while simultaneously focusing on development and governance in affected areas. Officials said coordinated efforts by central and state security forces have led to sustained pressure on Naxal groups across multiple states.
The operation in Kandhamal is part of a broader national strategy to eradicate Naxalism and restore lasting peace in affected regions, the ministry added.
