In a decisive move, the Indian Armed Forces carried out Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday (May 7, 2025), launching 24 missiles targeting terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The airstrikes, conducted by the Indian Air Force, aimed at 9 terror camps across 7 cities, resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including key figures of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Why Operation Sindoor?
The operation was executed in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 26 people (25 Indians and one Nepali) lost their lives. Terrorists had targeted civilians, asking about their religion before opening fire. Operation Sindoor is named to honor the women who lost their loved ones, symbolizing resilience and justice.
PM Modi’s Vigilance:
According to sources from ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored the operation throughout the night, demonstrating his commitment to national security. The strikes were carried out with precision to target terror infrastructure only, avoiding any damage to Pakistani military installations.
Pakistan’s Conflicting Reactions:
Following the strikes, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated that India fired 24 missiles, causing casualties, including 8 civilians dead and 35 injured. However, conflicting reports emerged from Pakistani media and officials:
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed Indian missiles fell in civilian areas.
Some media outlets alleged that 6 Indian fighter jets (including 3 Rafales, 2 MiG-29s, and a Sukhoi) were shot down, which Indian authorities categorically denied.
Confusion persisted as ISPR initially reported 5 targeted locations with 3 casualties, later updating the figure to 6 locations with 8 deaths.
India’s Official Statement:
The Indian Army clarified that the strikes were solely focused on terrorist camps and that no Pakistani military assets were targeted. Intelligence sources confirmed that the targets were pre-identified hubs of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Global Reactions:
Reacting to the incident, US President Donald Trump expressed his concern, calling it "shameful" and hoping for a resolution. He remarked on the prolonged conflict in the region, emphasizing the need for peace.
Families React:
Families of victims from the Pahalgam attack expressed a mix of grief and pride. Asavari Jagdale, daughter of martyr Santosh Jagdale, said, "Hearing the name of the operation made me cry... It is a true tribute to those killed by terrorists."
Moving Forward:
India’s response through Operation Sindoor showcases a strong and decisive stance against terrorism. The mission underlines India's resolve to ensure justice for the victims while maintaining strategic restraint to avoid unnecessary escalation.
