The Anti-Corruption Team on Saturday night arrested Sub-Inspector Amar Prajapati, posted at PGI Police Station in Lucknow, for allegedly accepting a bribe. He is accused of demanding ₹13,000 in exchange for releasing a seized vehicle.
According to the Inspector of PGI Police Station, the Anti-Corruption Team detained the sub-inspector from Vrindavan Outpost and took him away for further action. Amar Prajapati was posted at the outpost as an assisting officer.
Sources said the Anti-Corruption Team arrived unexpectedly late at night and took the accused officer into custody. He was reportedly taken to Gosainganj Police Station for further proceedings.
As per preliminary information, the accused sub-inspector had been harassing Shashank Kumar, a resident of Inayat Nagar in Ayodhya, for several days. The officer allegedly kept demanding a bribe to release the seized vehicle. Frustrated by repeated demands, the victim approached the Anti-Corruption Department and filed a complaint, following which the trap was laid.
No official statement has yet been issued by the Anti-Corruption Department regarding the arrest. The accused sub-inspector belongs to the 2023 batch and is a native of Rampur, Deoria district. Police officials have stated that an internal inquiry is currently underway.
