The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi (JMI) organised an Orientation Program on 4th September 2024, for newly admitted students in the B.Arch Program for 2024-25. The event commenced with Prof. Qamar Irshad, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, providing an overview of the university and the department. He highlighted that architecture involves understanding people’s needs, societal dynamics, and the environmental impact of buildings. He also emphasized the importance of holistic personality development, encompassing both academics and extracurricular activities.
Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, Officiating Vice Chancellor, JMI was the Chief Guest of the function. In his address, he underscored the significance of attendance, discipline, time management, and regularity. He noted that discipline and focused hard work lay a solid foundation for success. The Vice Chancellor encouraged students to be active university members, as they are the future torchbearers, and to elevate the University and the Department of Architecture to new heights. His inspiring words motivated students to strive for excellence.
Prof. Rahila Farooqui, Honorary Director of the Training and Placement Cell (TPC), JMI, discussed the placement process for students in the department. She also highlighted the efforts of the TPC in organizing training workshops to enhance students’ skills.
The Orientation Program also included sessions on campus safety. Prof. Hina Zia spoke about the role of the Internal Complaints Committee in ensuring a safe campus environment. Prof. Nisar Khan, Deputy Proctor at JMI, informed students about the University’s No Ragging policy.
During an interactive session, B.Arch First Year Coordinator, Mohd. Firoz Anwar, engaged with students and emphasized the importance of early goal-setting and dreaming big for a successful career in architecture.
In her Vote of Thanks, Prof. Taiyaba Munawer, Head of the Department of Architecture, expressed gratitude to the faculty, administrative, and non-teaching staff for their cooperation and support in making the program a success.
