Jaipur, July 9 – In a major relief for electricity consumers, especially in the agricultural sector, they will no longer have to wait for an FIR to be registered in order to receive a replacement transformer in case of theft. Thanks to the initiative of Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Shri Heeralal Nagar, electricity distribution corporations have issued new directives to streamline this process.
Earlier, the process of lodging an FIR after a transformer theft would take a long time, causing distress among farmers. Without timely irrigation due to the delay in transformer replacement, many crops would wither, leading to significant financial losses for the farmers.
Shri Nagar explained that in case of transformer theft, the Assistant Engineer will now immediately send a letter to the concerned police station requesting an FIR and ensure acknowledgment of the same. On the same day, information about the FIR request will be emailed by the Assistant Engineer to the Additional Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), who will coordinate with the local Station House Officer to ensure swift FIR registration.
Meanwhile, without waiting for the FIR to be officially registered, the Assistant Engineer will provide a replacement transformer from the buffer stock. Notification of the allocation, along with relevant documentation, will be sent to the Superintendent Engineer's office, which will also proceed with the allocation without awaiting FIR confirmation. The FIR will then be ensured within a 15-day period.
Shri Nagar further mentioned that the Assistant Engineer will continue coordinating with the local police to obtain the FIR number. If the FIR number is not received within 15 days, a list of such cases will be prepared and submitted to the Superintendent Engineer, who will then discuss these matters with the District Superintendent of Police.
The Energy Minister shared that during recent district visits, farmers had raised this concern with him. This proactive decision, he said, will offer significant relief to agricultural consumers across the state.
