The Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized an Orientation Program for newly admitted students of B.Ed. (General) programme on 3rd September 2024. Course Coordinator Dr. Dori Lal welcomed students and provided a detailed overview about the course which is divided into four semesters. He highlighted the significance of each component (Theory, Work Experience and School Internship) within the curriculum, emphasizing how each part contributes to the overall development of prospective teachers.
During her welcome address Prof. Jessy Abraham, Head of the Department, IASE introduced the faculty members to students. Prof. Roohi Fatima delivered her talk about the history and journey of JMI and the department. She told how from a very humble beginning in 1920, JMI made its position among the top three universities of the country. She also talked about various achievements, facilities, and infrastructure at the university. Prof. Jasim Ahmad talked about the vision of the Teacher Preparation Programme. He shared that it is the responsibility of the teacher to build the future of his/her students. Prof. Tabassum Naqi, Coordinator of CCA presented her views on the necessity of CCA in B.Ed. Dr. Raisa Khan highlighted the principles and objectives of the National Service Scheme (NSS). Prof. Gurjeet Kaur gave information regarding various university clubs.
Prof. Mohd Yusuf and other craft faculty members discussed the importance of craft-based education. He emphasized how crafts (interior decoration, woodwork, needlework, Bandani and tie-dye, paper craft in education, vocal music, and Gardening) helps in fostering creativity among learners. Dr. Mohd Mamur Ali emphasized the crucial role of School internships in teacher education. Mehnaz Ansari, coordinator of the time table, discussed the class time table.
Students visited the department and experienced craft work in abs with their senior fellows. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks by the Coordinator.
