Dr. Harsh Vardhan today assumed office as the Cabinet Minister of Health & Family Welfare. On his first day, the Ministry issued a public health advisory in light of the ongoing heat wave conditions affecting large parts of the country, including East & West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi.
The advisory outlines key precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

DOs
Stay indoors and in shaded, cool places.
Use an umbrella, cap, or towel when outdoors.
Wear light-colored, loose cotton clothing.
Stay hydrated: drink water, ORS, lassi, lemon water, and fruit juices.
Eat water-rich fruits like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and lemons.
Take frequent cool baths and keep indoor temperatures down using fans, curtains, and water sprinkling.
Shift anyone feeling unwell to a cooler place, remove excess clothing, apply cold compresses, and seek medical help immediately.
DON’Ts
Avoid going out during peak sun hours (12 PM to 3 PM).
Do not perform strenuous activities in the afternoon.
Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks, and sugary sodas.
Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
Refrain from wearing dark, synthetic, or tight clothing.
