The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has intensified its crackdown on graft in Rajasthan, with a high-profile arrest in Jaipur on Thursday. The principal of a government medical college in Sirohi was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000, following a planned trap laid by the ACB.
The arrest took place during a raid at the accused official’s Jaipur residence, underscoring the agency’s push to act swiftly on verified complaints.
Who Was Arrested and Why
The ACB identified the accused as Shravan Meena, Principal of Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Medical College, Sirohi. According to officials, the bribe was demanded in exchange for clearing pending bills related to hostel works executed by a contractor.
Investigators said the payment was positioned as a “facilitation” amount to move the file forward—an allegation that became the basis of the trap operation.
Complaint, Verification, and the Trap
The case began with a formal complaint submitted to the Jaipur unit of the ACB. The complainant alleged persistent pressure from the principal to pay ₹50,000 for passing the hostel contractor’s bill.
As per protocol, the ACB first conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the substance of the allegations. Once validated, the bureau planned a controlled operation.
Under the directions of DG ACB Govind Gupta, a team was deployed to the principal’s Jaipur residence in the Raja Park area. The moment the bribe amount was accepted, ACB officers moved in and arrested the accused on the spot.
Search and Further Proceedings
Following the arrest, the ACB carried out a search at the residence as part of standard procedure. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether similar demands were made in other cases during the principal’s tenure.
The bureau is now proceeding with legal formalities and expanding the probe based on evidence collected during the raid.
