As the world celebrates Mahavir Jayanti, there is no better place to immerse oneself in the wisdom and legacy of Bhagwan Mahavir than at the Abhay Prabhavana Museum. More than a repository of history, this museum is a vibrant, experiential space where ancient teachings meet contemporary understanding. Through meticulously curated exhibits, awe-inspiring sculptures, and immersive storytelling, it brings to life the essence of Jain philosophy i.e. a way of life rooted in value based living for a fulfilling life.
From the grandeur of the 43-foot Rishabhdev statue, symbolising the origins of Jain thought and civilizational inputs, to the magnificent Plaza of Equanimity which encourages a contemplative and spiritual reflection, every element within the museum ignites introspection. Jainism's foundation was laid by Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankar, enriched by the following Tirthankars, culminating in Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th and last Tirthankar, who refined and structured its philosophy into an ethical and spiritual system that remains profoundly relevant today. Besides the social elements introduced by Rishabhdev for a productive, creative and peaceful life, Ahimsa (non-violence) and Aparigraha (non-possessiveness), Mahavir emphasised on Anekantavada (multiplicity of viewpoints) and Kshama (granting and seeking forgiveness), and was a revolutionary call to compassion, tolerance, and mindful living. He redefined spirituality as a path of inner purification, where one's actions, thoughts, and speech must align with truth and non-harm and stressed on asceticism as a means to liberation. He stressed upon 'Panna sammikhaye dhammam' which encourages one to believe and act only after thorough self-examination, rather than blindly following dogmas and beliefs. He encouraged 'Parasparopagraho jivanam' which conveys respect for all living beings, as all beings are mutually dependent on each other and essential for the protection of the earth and ecological balance. His influence extended beyond Jainism, shaping India's philosophical and ethical tomorrow, inspiring movements of peace and non-violence at the helm.
Thus, Mahavir Jayanti is an invitation to pause, reflect, and recalibrate one's purpose. In an era of material excess and social unrest, Bhagwan Mahavir's principles offer a blueprint for a harmonious world, advocating self-restraint over indulgence, dialogue over dogma, and kindness over cruelty — values that echo through the very walls of the Abhay Prabhavana Museum.
To mark the auspicious occasion, the museum is offering special experience packages from 10th to 13th April 2025, including guided tours, interactive sessions with learned Sadhvis, and a daily presentation on 'The Timeless Wisdom of Tirthankar Mahavir' (4:30 PM - 6:00 PM). Visitors can choose from walk-in tours or day trips from Pune/PCMC, inclusive of meals and curated experiences.
"The teachings of Bhagwan Mahavir are not bound by time or religion. In fact, they are a universal guide to ethical living, inner peace, and true progress. At Abhay Prabhavana, we have sought to create a space where these eternal principles can be understood, appreciated, and most importantly, practiced. To experience Jain philosophy here is to engage with it not as a chapter from history, but as a living force that continues to shape our present and future," said Abhay Firodia, Founder, Abhay Prabhavana Museum, on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.
All of these aspects make the Abhay Prabhavana Museum a must-visit – a space where visitors can step away from the noise, engage with timeless wisdom, and return with a renewed sense of clarity and purpose.
