Rajasthan Excise Department seized illegal English liquor worth nearly ₹60 lakh from a truck during a special anti-smuggling operation in Kota under the state’s zero-tolerance policy against illicit liquor trade.
The action was carried out under the direction of Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta as part of an ongoing statewide enforcement campaign targeting illegal liquor smuggling, manufacturing, and sale.
According to officials, the truck was intercepted during a late-night blockade near the new toll plaza at Gopalpura on National Highway-52 in Kota. During the search, officials recovered a large consignment of liquor hidden beneath jute sacks inside the vehicle.
Authorities seized:
- 1,360 cartons of illegal liquor
- 65,280 quarter bottles of “For Sale in Chandigarh” branded liquor
- Estimated consignment value of around ₹60 lakh
The operation was led by Baran District Excise Officer Devendra Giri, Kota District Excise Officer Vivek Sharma, and Assistant Excise Officer Narayan Singh Tomar along with the excise enforcement team.
Officials said similar major seizures of illegal liquor consignments had recently been made in Hanumangarh, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, reflecting intensified action against interstate liquor smuggling networks.
Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta reiterated the department’s “zero tolerance” approach and directed all district officials to maintain strict vigilance against illegal liquor transportation and sales. He warned that accountability would be fixed in districts where effective enforcement measures are not implemented.
