With corruption being one of the major obstacles to economic, political and social progress of the country, employees of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) today took an integrity pledge to build a corruption free institution and the country. The pledge was administered by Prof. Nazim Husain Jafri, Registrar, JMI and Prof. Ejaz Masih, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in Hindi and English respectively at the lawns of the main administrative block of the university.
The pledge was administered as part of Vigilance Awareness Week being observed in the university from October 31- November 06, 2022 to emphasize the importance of integrity in public life and show its commitment to implement the policy of ‘Zero Tolerance against Corruption’. The theme of this year’s vigilance awareness week is “Corruption free India for a developed nation- भ्रस्ताचार मुक्त भारत – विकसित भारत”
The employees, among other things, pledged to promote ethical business practices and foster a culture of honesty and integrity; not to offer or accept bribes; commitment towards good corporate governance based on transparency, accountability and fairness; adherence to relevant laws, rules and compliance mechanisms in the conduct of business; adopt a code of ethics for all employees; sensitise employees of laws, regulations, etc. relevant to their work for honest discharge of their duties; provide grievance redressal and Whistle Blower mechanism for reporting grievances and fraudulent activities and to protect the rights and interests of stakeholders and the society at large.
Various departments & centres of the university also organized programmes to observe Vigilance Awareness Week.
The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), as part of its efforts to promote probity in public life and to achieve a corruption free society, observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year.
