वस्तुतः हम नहीं चाहते थे कि अधूरी… pic.twitter.com/qp3hpkgYs6
In light of the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in the basement of a coaching institute in Rajinder Nagar, and the subsequent circumstances, Team Drishti would like to present the following statement:
1. We regret the delay in issuing our statement. We wanted to ensure that we had all the accurate information before making any public comments. We sincerely apologize for this delay.
2. We deeply mourn the unfortunate incident in which three students—Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nivin Dalvin—lost their lives tragically and prematurely. We offer our heartfelt condolences to their families and pray that they find the strength to endure this irreplaceable loss.
3. Although we do not have a direct relationship with the families of these students, we stand fully with them during this difficult time. If there is any way we can assist them, we would be grateful to do so.
4. The anger expressed by students regarding this incident is entirely justified. It would be beneficial if this anger is directed towards the implementation of precise regulations by the government for coaching institutes. We are ready to actively cooperate with the government in this regard.
5. The issues related to coaching institutes are more complex than they appear on the surface. There are several facets connected to ambiguities and contradictions in existing laws. There are inconsistencies among the regulations of DDA, MCD, and the Delhi Fire Department. Similarly, there are significant contradictions in the provisions of the 'Delhi Master Plan-2021', 'National Building Code', 'Delhi Fire Rules', and 'Unified Building By-Laws'. Except for the 'Delhi Master Plan-2021', there are no clear provisions for coaching institutes in any of the documents. We hope that the committee appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs will address most of these issues in its report, due in a month.
6. We can confidently state that Team Drishti is extremely vigilant regarding student safety. Our management includes a dedicated 'Fire and Safety Officer' who has been trained at the National Fire Service College (Nagpur) and has over 14 years of experience working in major hospitals and malls. They conduct regular safety audits of all buildings. Additionally, each building has a designated officer responsible for checking 16 safety points daily and updating this information with the 'Building Maintenance Group'. All our classrooms are in buildings with at least two entry and exit routes to ensure students' safety in emergencies.
7. The extensive action taken by the Delhi Municipal Corporation in recent days is commendable.
8. A long-term solution to this issue would be for the government to designate three or four areas in Delhi specifically for coaching institutes. If the government builds classrooms, libraries, and hostels, there will be fewer issues related to high rents and safety provisions.
9. To clarify the complexities of this issue, we will soon release a detailed analysis (article or video) so that all students and other stakeholders can understand all aspects. We believe that with all perspectives presented, the right solution will emerge.
10. Once again, if there have been any inadvertent mistakes from our team, we sincerely apologize. We assure you of our heightened vigilance regarding student safety moving forward.
Warm regards, Vikas Divyakirti.
