Brent Crude Rises 1.80% to $107.88
Brent crude futures rose $1.98, or 1.80%, to $107.88 per barrel, according to the market figures displayed at the opening. Elevated crude oil prices remain a concern for India, which relies heavily on imported oil. A sustained rise in energy prices can increase import costs, add pressure to inflation and affect corporate margins, particularly in fuel-intensive sectors.
Investors will track movements in crude oil and global markets for further cues during the session.
IT and Banking Stocks Weigh on Market
The Nifty IT index's 1.31% decline made it the sharpest loser among the indices displayed. The Nifty Bank index also traded lower, reflecting pressure on banking stocks. The Nifty Midcap 100 declined 0.26%, indicating weakness beyond the frontline indices.
At the opening, the Nifty 50 was down 35.55 points at 23,110.60, while the Nifty Bank was lower by 0.17% at 55,750.25, according to the market ticker. Subsequent figures showed the declines widening slightly.
Market participants will monitor crude oil prices, global equity movements and sector-specific developments for direction through the trading session.
