Rajnath Singh inaugurated the one-kilometre-long Ujh Bridge in Kathua and the 617.40-metre-long Basantar Bridge in Samba, significantly enhancing road and bridge connectivity in border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
Describing the construction of the Ujh and Basantar bridges as a major achievement of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the Defence Minister said roads and bridges are the lifeline of a nation and play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of remote and border regions.
Rajnath Singh praised BRO personnel for working under hostile and difficult conditions away from their families and acknowledged the organisation’s contribution towards constructing and maintaining strategic infrastructure in border areas to support the operational requirements of the armed forces.
Reaffirming the Central Government’s commitment to improving connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that Narendra Modi regularly monitors the progress of such projects and ensures timely allocation of funds.
The one-kilometre-long Ujh Bridge is the longest bridge constructed by the BRO and features advanced pre-cast segmental bridge technology with 60-metre spans. Built at an approximate cost of ₹50 crore, the bridge was completed within the scheduled timeline. It is located on the Parole–Korepannu–Rajpura road over the Ujh Nallah.
