Mrs. Saroj Podiam, a resident of Sukma district, comes from a family severely affected by Maoist violence. In 2009, her father-in-law was killed by Maoists, pushing the family into a deep economic crisis. During this challenging time, the government extended timely support by providing them a house under the Nawa Bihan Yojana and appointing her husband, Mr. Rakesh Podiam, as a Nagar Sainik (Home Guard), ensuring both security and a stable livelihood for the family.
Mrs. Saroj Podiam had been doing tailoring work at home, but due to lack of capital, she was unable to expand her small business. When she learned about the Prime Minister’s PM SVANidhi Scheme, she applied to seize this opportunity for self-employment.
On 24 November, the State Bank of India, Sukma, sanctioned a loan of ₹15,000 for her. The cheque was handed over by Chief Municipal Officer Mr. P.R. Korram and Sukma Municipal Council President Mr. Hoonga Ram Markam.
With the loan approval, Mrs. Saroj Podiam expanded her tailoring business with renewed enthusiasm and confidence. Today, through her hard work and the support of government schemes, she is supporting her family and emerging as an empowered, self-reliant woman — a true inspiration for society.
Mrs. Saroj says that the government’s support, combined with her own determination, has brought a positive transformation in her life.
