New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a six-day visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand beginning July 6, aimed at deepening India's strategic, economic and people-to-people ties with the three Indo-Pacific partners.
Briefing the media, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Rudrendra Tandon, said the Prime Minister will visit Indonesia from July 6 to 8, marking his fourth visit to the country and his first bilateral visit since India and Indonesia elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in May 2018.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to review progress across key areas of the partnership. Most of his engagements will take place in Jakarta, where he will also address a gathering of the Indian diaspora.
The Prime Minister will also travel to the historic city of Yogyakarta, where he is scheduled to visit the Prambanan Temple complex. India and Indonesia will collaborate on conservation work at the UNESCO World Heritage site.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit builds on discussions initiated during President Prabowo's visit to India as the Chief Guest for the 2025 Republic Day celebrations and is expected to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Highlighting the strategic importance of Indonesia, Tandon said the country plays a vital role in ensuring the security and stability of the Malacca Strait, one of India's most important sea lanes of communication and a critical maritime route for global trade.
The second leg of the Prime Minister's tour will take him to Australia from July 8 to 10, where he will participate in the third India-Australia Annual Summit with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Melbourne.
