HCG Manavata Cancer Centre (HCGMCC) recently inaugurated its state-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) department, designed to accelerate healing and enhance patient recovery. Unlike traditional monoplace chambers accommodating one person, the advanced HBOT infrastructure at HCGMCC supports up to four individuals simultaneously. The facility was inaugurated in the presence of esteemed medical leaders, including Dr Sudhir Sanklecha, President of the Indian Medical Association, Nashik; Dr Rajendra Nehete, renowned plastic surgeon; Dr Rupam Gangurde, famed cosmetologist; Dr Mustafa Topiwala, distinguished physiotherapist; and senior surgeons Dr Mahesh Malu, Dr Sachin Arsule, Dr Santosh Rawalani and Dr Pramod Shinde.
“This development extends our commitment to providing world-class care at HCG Manavata Cancer Centre. Our goal is to ensure patients have access to the best global healthcare standards. I extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported this vision,” says Prof Dr Raj Nagarkar, MD & Chief of Surgical Oncology & Robotic Services, HCGMCC.
HBOT offers several potential benefits by delivering 100 per cent oxygen in a pressurized chamber, allowing the body to absorb higher levels of oxygen. Some of the key benefits include: -
1. Enhanced Wound Healing: Promotes faster healing of chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, by increasing oxygen supply to damaged tissues. Reduces swelling and inflammation in injured areas.
2. Improved Oxygen Delivery: Increases oxygen levels in the blood, helping tissues that are deprived of oxygen due to injury, infection, or poor circulation.
3. Supports Brain Health: May aid in recovery from traumatic brain injuries (TBI), strokes, and neurological conditions by enhancing oxygen supply to brain cells. Improves cognitive function and reduces symptoms of conditions like post-concussion syndrome.
4. Reduces Infection Risk: Helps fight infections, including serious bacterial infections and those caused by anaerobic bacteria, by enhancing the body's immune response. Effective in treating conditions like gas gangrene and necrotizing fasciitis.
5. Boosts Stem Cell Production: Stimulates the production of stem cells, which can aid in tissue repair and regeneration.
6. Enhances Recovery from Radiation Therapy: Helps manage side effects of radiation therapy, such as radiation-induced tissue damage, by improving oxygenation and promoting repair.
7. Supports Athletes and Recovery: Used by athletes to speed up recovery from sports injuries by reducing inflammation and enhancing tissue repair.
8. Helps with Decompression Sickness: Essential for treating decompression sickness ("the bends") in divers by eliminating nitrogen bubbles from the bloodstream.
9. Anti-Aging and Skin Benefits: Some studies suggest HBOT may improve skin health, reduce wrinkles, and enhance collagen production by improving circulation and oxygenation.
10. Potential Benefits for Chronic Conditions: May provide relief for conditions like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and autoimmune disorders by reducing inflammation and improving cellular function.
However, HBOT should always be administered under medical supervision, as improper use can lead to side effects such as oxygen toxicity or barotrauma.
Accredited with Digital Health Standards by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), HCGMCC continues to prioritize innovation, patient safety, and convenience in healthcare delivery.
