Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest push to operationalise 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, calling it a landmark step toward deeper women’s empowerment. The move is set to be taken up during the special three-day Parliament sitting from April 16 to 18, aimed at enabling implementation from the 2029 general elections.
Dr. Yadav said the proposed parliamentary proceedings would become a powerful instrument for strengthening women’s role in governance and democracy. He noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, the journey of nari shakti is gaining unprecedented momentum, with women today making strides across sectors ranging from aviation and space to public administration and entrepreneurship.
Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s own initiatives, the Chief Minister said the state has been continuously working on the Prime Minister’s vision of women-led development. He pointed to women’s growing leadership in industry, tourism homestays, toll operations, and local governance roles such as mayors and sarpanches, where they are increasingly contributing to welfare-oriented governance.
Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023, Dr. Yadav said the upcoming Parliament session could prove historic, as it is expected to lay the legal and structural groundwork required to ensure that women secure one-third representation in legislatures from 2029 onward.
