In a remarkable medical intervention, a team led by Dr. Nitin Dange, Neurosurgeon at Global Hospital, Parel, successfully performed a life-saving brain tumor resection surgery on Ganesh Bhor, a 29-year-old neuro technician. The patient, who was rushed to the emergency department in a near brain-dead state, was diagnosed with acute hydrocephalus triggered by a colloid cyst in the brain.
Ganesh had been suffering from severe headaches, slurred speech, and fever, followed by altered sensorium and loss of consciousness. Upon admission, a CT scan revealed an alarming buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain's ventricles — a condition known as acute hydrocephalus. Immediate action was taken by the emergency team, and Ganesh was intubated and placed on a ventilator.
Subsequent MRI scans identified a colloid cyst obstructing the normal flow of CSF, dangerously increasing intracranial pressure. Dr. Nitin Dange and Dr. Pankaj Agarwal performed an emergency ventricular tap, relieving the pressure and reviving the patient. This was followed by a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt procedure and microsurgical removal of the cyst.
