In a significant milestone for India’s railway electrification program, Man Structurals Pvt. Ltd. has successfully commissioned the Indian Railway’s first-ever 220/2x55 kV – 100 MVA Scott-connected transformer at the South East Central Railway (SECR), Bilaspur Division, under the aegis of RITES Ltd.
The commissioning took place on June 23, 2025. This high-capacity transformer – built to support the Indian Railways’ dual-phase traction system – will play a critical role in strengthening power reliability, load balancing, and energy efficiency for the electrified rail network. The Scott-connected transformer ensures the conversion of three-phase grid supply into two-phase output, as required by the Indian Railways' 2x25 kV traction system, making it an essential innovation in high-load, high-speed rail corridors.
“This commissioning is a significant engineering achievement, not just for us but for the nation,” said Gaurav Rungta, Managing Director of Man Structurals Pvt. Ltd. “We are proud to partner with RITES Ltd. and Indian Railways in building future-ready electrical infrastructure. This success reflects our continued commitment to technical excellence and national development.”
The project contributes directly to the Railway Ministry’s electrification and decarbonization goals, providing efficient power distribution and enhancing the capacity to run more electric trains in the Bilaspur Division and beyond.
