Story in Key Pointers:
Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan predicted that Mamata Banerjee will form the government again in West Bengal, speaking on the final day of the Winter Session of Parliament.
She made the statement while standing in support of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs during their protest near the Parliament premises.
TMC MPs staged a 12-hour sit-in protest from midnight on Thursday against the alleged renaming of MGNREGA using numerical strength.
Food for the protesting MPs was arranged from the residences of Jaya Bachchan and Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury.
Jaya Bachchan later joined the protest at the Old Parliament building, accompanied by Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.
Holding placards opposing the alleged “killing of MGNREGA,” Jaya joined TMC leaders Kalyan Banerjee, Dola Sen, and June Malia in protest slogans and a rendition of “Dhan Dhanye Pushpe Bhora”.
In a lighter moment, when Kalyan Banerjee jokingly asked her to bring Amitabh Bachchan to the protest someday, Jaya Bachchan responded with humour, drawing laughter from fellow MPs.
Speaking on alleged insults to Bengali icons such as Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Rabindranath Tagore, Jaya Bachchan expressed strong resentment.
She said, “The more they insult Bengal, the stronger the morale of its people will become.”
Reiterating her political prediction, she added that Bengalis think ahead of others, asserting confidently that Mamata Banerjee will return to power in Bengal.
