Kapadia Hospital has completed over 100 surgeries in just eight months, becoming the first in Mumbai to implement a state-of-the-art robotic system for AI-enabled, robotic-activated knee replacements. This Made-in-India innovation marks a significant milestone in advancing accessible and affordable domestic medical technologies.
This new system uses specialized software that can take into account real-time data to build an accurate 3D model of each individual patient’s anatomy. This allows surgeons to perform extremely precise cuts of bone, as well as to place implants in the proper position. The MISSO robotic system is also equipped with an optical camera for tracking, safety mechanisms, and the ability to make intraoperative adjustments that improve joint stability and facilitate easier movement after surgical completion using an advanced six-joint robotic arm.
MISSO integrates robotic planning and execution using AI technology, so it can offer a streamlined system for robotic replacement of joints by incorporating advanced surgical technology, including the 6-axis robotic arm, robotic-guidance systems, and any additional safety features required for performing a robotic procedure on a patient.
Additionally, the advantages of using MISSO include more precise alignment of the bones, improved healing from less traumatic injury to surrounding tissues, less bleeding during surgery, less post-surgical recovery period, faster return to full mobility, and a greater likelihood that the patient will be able to afford and access robotic replacement surgery. By using a system designed and manufactured in India, Kapadia Hospital is providing patients with world-class, robotic-assisted knee replacement technology at an affordable price.
According to Dr. Rahul Modi, Orthopedic Surgeon, Kapadia Hospital, said, "MISSO is a significant advancement in orthopaedic care in India, allowing for greater availability of advanced surgeries for many people due to the increased precision, safety and efficiency of MISSO. We are excited to bring Mumbai's first AI-Based Robotic Knee Replacement System to the region."
The MISSO design includes built-in safety features, including real-time tracking and automatic correction capabilities designed to significantly reduce any possibility of making intraoperative mistakes. In summary, the MISSO robotic system is an excellent example of India’s growing technological capabilities and is a credible alternative to the global robotic system options.
