
Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI), Central University of Jharkhand(CUJ) and Researcher’s Association for the Study of Korea(RASK) jointly organised 14th RASK International Webinar on “Challenges and Future Prospects under Act East Policy in India and New Southern Policy in Korea” 6th and 7th November 2020.JMI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar was the Chief Guest in the inaugural session.
She congratulated Professor Kim Do Young, Chairman of Researchers’ Association for the Study of Korea, Shashi Kumar Mishra, President of RASK and to all those involved in organizing the webinar for having thought of such a befitting subject for the International webinar.
In her inaugural address Prof. Akhtar said that India and Korea have been known to each other from early history. Various scholars from both the countries have tried to enrich their common heritage through their study, tours and exchanges.
With the liberalization of Indian economy, both the countries have identified several areas in which their complementarities will make bilateral cooperation fruitful and promising in future. She further said that we are consolidating our engagements with various institutions in the Republic of Korea to take our relationship to the next level and hope that the webinar furthers the development in the governmental diplomacy which will ultimately strengthen Indo-Korea relationship in various sectors. The video-message of the South Korean Ambassador was played out during the online function.
Mr. Skand Tayal, former Ambassador to the Republic of Korea talked about the opportunities under the Act East Policy and New Southern Policy. Prof. Jo Dong-Joon from the Seoul National University spoke about the emerging multilateral dynamics in the region in view of the present stand-off between India and China and latter’s 2013 initiative to develop a global infrastructure for a trade route through One Belt One Road(OBOR).
Prof. Do-Young Kim, Director, Korean Studies Program in JMI shared the objectives and achievements of RASK in consolidating the bilateral engagement between India and South Korea.
