New Delhi, March 1: A two-day “Hands-On Workshop” on “Natural Building Techniques” was hosted by the Department of Architecture on 28-29th February 2024 as part of Viksit Bharat Abhiyan. The inaugural session on Day 1 was attended by Dean- Prof. Hina Zia, HoD- Prof. Qamar Irshad and faculty coordinators Ar. Mohd. Ziauddin and Ar. Mohd. Firoz Anwar and the students of Architecture. It was followed by an insightful and participatory session on mud architecture design and techniques by Key Speaker- Ar. Shreya Srivastava (Principal Architect, Studio Shunya, Greater Noida). The second session of Day 1 involved hands-on working by students to build a COB bench in the backyard of the faculty building.
On Day 2 of the Workshop, 54 students accompanied by faculty members visited the Greater Noida situated office of the Studio Shunya constructed entirely in Mud Architecture. The two sessions on site involved a 30 minute video documentary of the construction process and later a guided tour of the office building by Ar. Shreya, giving detailed insights of the elements, techniques and challenges of the construction process.
The two day workshop was an extremely insightful, immersive and enriching experience for students on alternative building materials and techniques and shall pave way for newer directions in learning of sustainable practices in architecture.
